Middle managers play a key role in the company – they are the intermediaries between team members and top management, they look after the well-being of their colleagues, but at the same time they have to ensure that the company’s objectives are achieved. 

It is often the case that it is quite natural for companies to decide to appoint a colleague who was previously a specialist in the company as team leader. This is very logical – this person already knows the team members, is familiar with the specifics of the company, knows the day-to-day work, knows the structure and culture, etc. If the company has a process in place to prepare the employee for the new role – great! However, this process is often limited to administrative issues – perhaps filing additional reports, adding new meetings to the agenda, etc. However, it should not be forgotten that the employee’s status in the company changes and a new identity emerges – he is no longer a specialist, he is no longer responsible for his own work, but now he has his own team too. And after all, no one usually teaches you how to work with people.
