It’s a natural cycle to have ups and downs in team dynamics but the goal always stays the same – to produce results. Many teams try to solve their issues on their own, which means that one the team members needs to step up, and take up the role of facilitator. In some cases that might work, but the risk is that it might be difficult for a facilitator to dissociate from the topic, especially if he/she is a member of the management team and his/her insights are valuable when finding solutions.
An external coach for a management team can very helpful because it is someone who has competencies and is skilled with specific coaching methods, who is impartial and is not personally involved, who will be able to name “the elephant in the room” when there is a tension among team members and nobody dears to speak about it.
